With Waterscapes, I was looking for calmness and peace. In the current, fast-paced, often artificial world, I often felt the need to find a refuge, a spot where to relax and get back to our natural dimension. And I found the answer to my search in the water element. Not the energetic and dynamic forces of the ocean waves or the waterfalls, but the stillness of rivers, lakes and ponds. Throughout my travels, I found myself fascinated by these peaceful landscapes, but I had to fight hard not to fall in the obvious and cliché (as a beautiful sunset in the sea, actually there are pictures of sunset in the sea, but I tried the "kitsch" approach, making fun out of the iconic tropical landscapes).
Waterscapes is also a tribute to my origins. The city where I was born, Trieste, is a port in the North of the Adriatic sea and I guess that whoever was born and raised at a sea location will always bear, eventually deep in his soul, the call for the sea and water. In terms of tributes, besides Trieste, I couldn't forget my adoptive homeland, Czech republic, which is filled with rivers, lakes and ponds, both in the natural context and in the beautiful gardens.
Coherently with my aspiration for calmness, these landscapes are quite empty and desert. It is difficult for me to think about peace and associate it with a crowded sandy beach in Italy in August. Therefore my images are rather coming from distant and empty spaces or from the Northern, cold winter.
